How do you change the sounds on this synthesizer?
By adjusting any of the functions listed above.

What are Effects?
Effects allow you to customize your patch by manipulating the sound to make it seem smoother or grungier or basically, however you want it to sound.

What effect makes the sound like a distorted guitar?
The "heavy crunch" template in the effects navigator makes the sound like a distorted guitar (overdrive, tube amp, and cabinet). Of those three, tube amp seems to be the one that makes it sound the most distorted.

What effect makes the sound sound like it is in a cave?
Reverb

What is the function of the pitch wheel on the bottom left? How can you control it with your keyboard?
It bends the pitch, which means that if you move the wheel while playing a note, the pitch gets higher or lower depending on which way you slide the pitch bend wheel.

What is the function of the Mod wheel on the bottom left?
Mod stands for Modulation, and if you move the wheel up, it makes the sound "wiggle".

Can you describe the overall quality of the sounds on this synth?
Most of them are pretty "electronic" sounding; there aren't really any clean instrument patches to choose from.
